A man from Amersham will peddle 100 miles an old single-speed butchers bike in aid for charity.

Tom Harrison is hoping to raise £5,000 for both the Red Cross and Ukraine Appeal, with his mode of transport also having a wicker basket in the Ride London event which will take place on May 26.

He told the Free Press: “It is going to be a tough slog, but as I have always said in my previous challenges for Ukraine, nothing compared to what the Ukrainians continue to endure.

“I may well be last as I was in the marathon, but there is a strange honour in being the underdog and fighting on nevertheless.”

He will take part in the ride whilst donning his specially-made Ukraine cycle jersey.

And incredibly, he has already raised £1,178 for both causes via his JustGiving page which reads: “In May, I will be riding 100 miles for the British Red Cross in memory of my 100-year-old grandmother, Margaret Hugon, who died earlier this year.

“Granny was a fierce supporter of all my fundraising activities, including for the British Red Cross which are doing so much vital work in places like Ukraine and Gaza.
