WEYMOUTH have parted ways with manager Bobby Wilkinson and his backroom staff with immediate effect.

Assistant Mike Percival plus coaches Chris Humphries and Lea Barkus have all departed, but kitman Lloyd Green and physio Georgie Turner are understood to remain in post.

Jason Matthews, goalkeeping coach, has been named interim boss for an indeterminate time.

Wilkinson managed the Terras for just over 18 months, his time spanning as the 22nd longest in the Terras’ hotseat.

He exits Weymouth having won 32 of his 91 games in charge, drawing 21 and losing 38.

It comes after Weymouth beat Havant & Waterlooville 4-1 on Saturday, proving to be Wilkinson's final game in charge.

Most famously, though, Wilkinson will be remembered for keeping Weymouth up last season in what fans dubbed as ‘The Great Escape’.

In a brief statement, Weymouth said: "Weymouth Football Club and Bobby Wilkinson regret to announce that they have parted company by mutual consent.

"The club would like to thank Bobby for his efforts in achieving “The Great Escape” last season and in progressing the team forward in National League South this season, and wishes him every success in the future."

The Terras also confirmed the departures of Wilkinson's backroom team, adding: "Following the news that Weymouth Football Club and Bobby Wilkinson have mutually agreed to part company, additionally, we can confirm the departure of Mike Percival, Lea Barkus, and Chris Humphries from the club.

"We extend our sincere gratitude to each member of the team for their dedicated contributions during their tenure with us and convey our best wishes for their future endeavours."

Wilkinson and chairman Paul Maitland have been contacted by Echosport for comment.

Wilkinson was under contract with Weymouth until the 2025/26 season's end, having signed an extension.

Weymouth's next fixture comes on Good Friday at Bath City (3pm).
