DRIVERS can breathe a sigh of relief tomorrow when a weeklong road closure comes to a welcome end.

Wimborne Road, southbound towards Bournemouth town centre and just before Cemetery Junction, will fully reopen on Sunday, November 19.

Since Monday, November 13, Wessex Water has been carrying out repair work on the manhole covers while BCP Council has been doing maintenance of drain covers.

The road has been shut all week and drivers have been taken down a diversion route to East Avenue Roundabout, continuing on Wimborne Road to the traffic lights at Buffalo Bar in Winton.

Drivers were then taken right along Alma Road and right again onto Charminster Road before heading back to Cemetery Junction.

Heavy traffic and long queues have been reported on the diversion route, made worse during rush hour, too.

Now, though, Wessex Water has confirmed the work will be completed on Sunday and fully reopen.

A spokesperson for the company apologised for the disruption caused.
