PEOPLE OVER 65 can benefit from a 'hot cuppa' and an IT masterclass on digital skills this week.

For a limited time, the elderly can benefit from a free cup of tea or coffee whilst learning how to improve their digital skills thanks to a BT pop-up internet cafe in Bournemouth.

They will be taught basics such as online shopping, booking a doctor's appointment, and staying in touch with loved ones.

BT partnered with AbilityNet for the initiative which aims to improve the digital skills of over 5,000 people in the UK.

Victoria Johnson, social impact director at BT Group, said: “While we know that the pandemic resulted in many older people using online devices for the first time, it’s sadly the case that there are still many who, for various reasons, aren’t online.

“Experts tell us that the best approach to helping older people gain confidence and improve their online skills is through tailored, one-to-one support delivered among peers.

What better way to do this than over a cuppa in a great venue.”

The sessions will be held at Frieda’s Tearoom on Stafford Rd in Bournemouth.

The BTea café will be open from 9am until 5.30pm on October 18 and 19.
