Former Pop Idol star Darius Campbell Danesh died on August 11, 2022. He was discovered unresponsive in his Rochester, Minnesota residence in the United States.

New details regarding the singer’s death have now been made public.

Autopsy documents reported “toxic effects of chloroethane” as well as “suffocation” as having led to his death, which was ruled an accident.

Darius had been suffering from severe nerve pain in his neck following car accidents in 2010 and 2022 and was taking chloroethane to help manage the pain.

When Darius Campbell – better known simply as Darius – was riding on the crest of his newfound fame, there were few places he was pictured in more than Dorset.

The Glasgow-born musician and songwriter first entered the limelight in 2001 on televised talent competition Popstars before being voted to the finals of Pop Idol the following year.

Darius rejected Simon Cowell's record deal and instead signed with producer Steve Lillywhite.

His first single Colourblind topped the UK singles chart in 2002 and was certified silver.
