A DISCARDED pipe in some Christchurch woodland prompted a large police response yesterday afternoon.
Police were called to an old, disused bunker in Mudeford Woods shortly after 4.30pm on Sunday, August 27.
Witnesses saw the fire brigade show up along with “five to six” police cars and crime scene investigators dressed in white hazmat suits.
They were called to reports of an unidentified object being inside the bumper.
The fire service cut open iron guards around the bunker as police taped off the woodland for a few hours.

However, it turned out the unidentified object was just some discarded piping.
A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “At 4.30pm on Sunday 27 August 2023 Dorset Police received a report that an unidentified object had been seen down in an old unused bunker in Mudeford Wood in Christchurch.
“After access was gained to the location, it was discovered that the object was some discarded piping.”
Residents reacted with concern at the bunker, which they say has had a long history of anti-social behaviour and drug-taking.
One woman, who asked for anonymity, said: “It is so dangerous around there and it has been a pain for us of us living here for some time.
“We’ve had to put fires out inside the bunker before and you can often smell dope.”
