AN APP-BASED food ordering business is looking to transform a warehouse on an industrial estate in Poole into a food hall.

Dariush Majidi of HappyEater Ltd has tabled plans to “rejuvenate” the site in Sharp Road, Rossmore, which is currently used by the company as an office.

A planning statement submitted as part of the proposal to BCP Council says HappyEater is similar to JustEat and Deliveroo.

It will have a “unique selling point” of offering different cuisines to be delivered at the same time, such as fish and chips alongside a Chinese takeaway.

The scheme, if approved, will see the large unused warehouse transformed into a space for six commercial kitchens, inside and outside seating, and a coffee bar.

The planning statement prepared by Bournemouth-based HLF Planning says: “The vision of the unit is to provide a flagship base for HappyEater.

“This will serve food to visiting customers and the surrounding workers of the industrial estate and serve as a central hub for a wide range of takeaway services that primarily utilise delivery riders.”

The application includes the erection of a replacement outbuilding and toilet facilities with the commercial activity on the site falling within the sui generis restaurant/takeaway category.

Documents submitted in the plans say the proposals will create 15 full-time and 12 part-time jobs.

Indicative opening hours in the application state the site would be in operation from 8am to 11pm seven days a week.

“The proposed use is likely to be too concentrated to operate in another, more residential, area,” the planning statement said.

“The process of numerous kitchens serving a communal restaurant area is commonplace on the continent and will serve as a great benefit to customers visiting the nature reserve.

“Having the different cuisines in one location not only increases choice for customers, but also decreases the number of deliveries that need to be made for multiple orders - for example if an order needed to be placed at multiple takeaways to achieve the same order of multiple cuisines.”

The planning application can be viewed on the BCP Council’s Poole planning portal.
