AFC Bournemouth has applied to the council for a licence to host boxing and wrestling matches.
If granted, the application, submitted to BCP Council, could see the club’s Vitality Stadium host boxing or wrestling matches within its grounds.
It would be the first time such sport was held on the grounds, formerly known as Dean Court.
The application includes the use of a microphone throughout events but will only be used after 10pm to introduce bouts and/or for appropriate announcements and will not be used after 11.30pm except in the event of an emergency.
As well as this, occasional use of temporary bars as well as a permanent bar by the south stand selling alcohol would accompany this.
Professional Bournemouth-born boxer Chris Billam-Smith confirmed to the Echo in December that “talks are ongoing” about reaching the top perch of world boxing at the Cherries’ stadium this summer.
He said: “Yeah, talks are ongoing potentially for the end of May, early June next year – hopefully at Dean Court. For me, we are that close to it.”
The consultation for the licence application ends on April 4 and a decision will be reached after that.
