A RESTAURANT is set to close for more than three weeks for an extensive renovation just in time for the King’s coronation celebrations.

National brand Toby Carvery has confirmed it is carrying out a makeover of its site at the Old Vicarage in Northbourne, Bournemouth.

Restaurant company Mitchells & Butlers has submitted a planning application to BCP Council as part of the project.

The firm is seeking permission to install a new entrance canopy, timber cladding, external doors and lighting at the site in Wimborne Road.

A spokesperson for Toby Carvery – Northbourne, said: “We are excited to give one of our longest serving Toby Carvery’s a well-deserved makeover this spring.

“We are planning to temporarily close our doors from Tuesday, April 11, before reopening on Saturday, May 6, to welcome guests back in time to enjoy a succulent Great British roast in celebration of the King’s coronation.

“As part of the reopening, we hope to employ 15 new members to our amazing team, some of who have worked here for 30 years.”

The planning application for the scheme is currently being assessed by BCP Council planners.

A statement submitted on behalf of Mitchells & Butlers said that it is believed the design is to a “high standard and suitable” for the site, which is located near the Northbourne Roundabout.

Changes to the entrance will create a “more traditional frontage to the building”.

The design and access statement by Sheffield-based Aba Architecture said: “The proposal offers continued economic viability to the building and will provide substantial benefits for the area, in terms of economic growth and the contribution to the local amenity and street scene.

“The designs will ensure the preservation of existing architectural features within the building and enhance existing features through a series of repairs to ensure its longevity.”

The public consultation on the council’s planning portal for residents to comment on the application is open until March 10.
