A FORMER Special Boat Service soldier left paralysed after being shot through the neck in Afghanistan will be the guest speaker at an event for business leaders.

Toby Gutteridge did not breathe for 20 minutes after he was wounded in 2009 and doctors recommended his life support be switched off.

The injury left him paralysed from the neck down, but he rebuilt his life, started a business and recently published his memoir Never Will I Die.

The recounts his difficult childhood in South Africa and his decision to join the special forces, as well as telling of his injury and subsequent battle to come to terms with it.

He will speak to the next Leaders’ Lunch organised by the Poole-based business coaching and advisory firm Evolve.

The Daily Echo is media partner for the event on Friday, March 17, at the Marsham Court Hotel in Bournemouth.

Evolve founder Warren Munson, who recently spoke to Mr Gutteridge on the Evolve to Succeed podcast, said: “Toby is a truly incredible individual.

"Words like ‘bravery’ and ‘resilience’ tend to get thrown around a lot, but in Toby’s case it barely comes close to scratching the surface of what he has achieved. His honesty and insight will inspire you and remind you that you’re capable of a lot more than you might think.”

The event will include a question and answer session hosted by Nigel Smith from Ellis Jones.
