EMERGENCY works are taking place in Christchurch town centre.

Repairs are being carried out at Fountain Roundabout following a gas leak.

The bus lane has been coned off and affected buses are being diverted.

SGN say it is “too early” to say how long the repairs will take to complete.

A spokesperson for the utility company said: “Our engineers are carrying out urgent repairs to our gas network near to Fountain Roundabout after a leak was discovered.

"This essential work is being carried out to ensure Christchurch residents and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

"To ensure everyone’s safety while we make the required repairs, we’ve needed to close a bus lane near to the roundabout.

"Affected buses are being diverted and people should check with bus companies to find the latest information on the impact to services.

"It’s too early to speculate how long this work might take to complete. We’re working to make the network repairs as quickly and safely as possible, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this time."
