A MAN has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a stabbing in Christchurch.

The man, aged in his 30s, sustained a suspected stab wound following an altercation in Fairmile Road.

Police were called to the scene at 4.51pm on Thursday, December 8.

Detectives have launched a full investigation into this incident and a cordon was put in place at the scene.

On Friday morning, a section of the pavement on Jumpers Road and two bus shelters on Fairmile Road in Christchurch were still cordoned off and three police cars were in attendance.

One resident who lived on Fairmile Road said: “There was a fight and somebody was hospitalised.”

Another resident said: “I was on the way to work at about 4.53pm when I saw a man being tackled to the ground by police on the corner of Jumpers Road and Fairmile, and a police officer running across the road back towards the police station.”

Police have appealed for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them.

Detective Inspector Ian Allen, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone who saw what happened, or who has any information that might assist our enquiries, to please contact us.

“I would also urge people who live or were driving in the area to check any CCTV or dashcam footage for anything of relevance.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries are carried out and local officers can be approached by members of the public with any information or concerns.

“At this time we believe this incident involved individuals who were known to each other and there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the local community.”
