Fire crews were called to a 'smell of burning' near KFC in Bournemouth in the early hours of Friday morning.
Crews were called to the Lansdowne area of Bournemouth just after 1am after a call reporting the smell.
Crews from Redhill, Westbourne, Springbourne, Christchurch, Poole, Hamworthy and Ferndown were all sent to the scene as the building is a high rise.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, smoke was visible and upon investigation it was found that this was coming from the waste bin area at the rear of the building.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire externally and crews gained access internally in order to check for fire spread.
"Resources were released from the scene just before 2.30am although a crew remained in attendance to liaise with other agencies."
