TEMPERATURES are set to plummet this week with minus 10C possible in some areas, a Dorset weather enthusiast has said.

Bitterly cold weather is expected over the coming days with forecasters keeping a close eye on whether we could see the first snowfall of winter.

Posting on Twitter on Sunday afternoon Dorset Snow said: “Bitterly cold by Friday morning.

"Could see lows down towards -10C in frost hollows.”

He continued: “Friday and Saturday offer the best chance for us squeezing out some snow showers. The air becomes more unstable and snow productive during this time period.”

Giving his forecaster for December earlier this month, Dorset Snow said this month is expected to be colder than average with wintry precipation possible around mid month.

Posting on Twitter, he said: "Still wouldn’t rule it out turning even colder by mid month.

"Some of the models have hinted at a retrogression of the Greenland high.

"An incredibly interesting month to come."
