A CAR has burst into flames on a key Hampshire road. 

Firefighters were scrambled after a fire engulfed a vehicle parked in a layby on the eastbound A31 at around 8am today. 

Crews from Ringwood and Ferndown Fire Stations were called to the scene near the Bratley Inclosure.

According to a spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, two hose reels and two breathing apparatus were used to put out the blaze, which started in the car's engine. 

It is understood that no one was injured during the incident. 

The stop message came in at 8.45am.
