FRESH flood alerts have been issued for parts of Dorset as parts of the coast are expected to have high tide.
The Environment Agency has warned of a “higher than usual” tide this evening as “unsettled weather” threatens to create additional tidal surges.
Flooding is possible between 8.15pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday, November 23, with areas most at risk including Poole Harbour, Wareham and tidal stretches of the Lower Frome and River Piddle.
Models predict the level at Wareham to reach 1.23m and at Poole to reach 1.36m.
An alert has also been issued by the Environment Agnecy for Christchurch Harbour and tidal stretches of the Lower Stour and Avon.
The Environment Agency said: “The next high tide is expected to be higher than normal and may result in us issuing a further alert.
“Our incident response staff are closing flood gates and checking defences.”
A further flood alert has been issued for Swanage Bay, along with Castletown, Weymouth, Preston beach, Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth beach, Hengistbury Head, between 4pm and 9pm on Wednesday, November 23.
Unsettled weather is predicted to cause spray overtopping defences.
The Environment Agnecy added: “Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.”
