TAKE a look inside Poole’s newest burger chain.

Five Guys opened only its third branch in BCP earlier this week on Monday, November 22.

The Echo was invited down to have a look at the restaurant in Yarrow Road, near Tower Park, and, of course, have a try of what’s on offer.

What sets Five Guys aside from other conventional fast food burger chains is the freshness of its food, duty manager Angie Vanegas said.

“Everything we do is fresh,” she said. “Everything we use is high quality ingredients. The bread is prepared every morning daily and the meat comes in all fresh as well.

“We are very proud of the service we give and take pride in our cooking. Our cashier is very approachable.

“This is what makes the difference with us compared to other burger chains; you don’t have a machine to make an order. Rather you do it face to face; it’s more personal with real people.

“We are a family and we consider our customers a part of that as well.”

Angie also said the opening two days have been “very busy” as hundreds have been appearing to try out the new restaurant.

Enough talk, it was time to try some food. Having had a Five Guys burger before, I was vaguely familiar with the process.

But to help guide me through, the wonderful Estella talked me through the process.

Diners can choose from a range of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and fries.

Once you’ve chosen from that, you are invited to choose as many as 15 toppings to accompany your food.

My order: a cheeseburger. Topped with jalapenos, onions, relish and lettuce. Served with a side of fries (made from fresh potatoes in Lancashire). Washed down with Five Guy’s newest festive number: a pigs in blanket milkshake.

The burger was typically delightful. Juicy, meaty and, most importantly, fresh. As were the fries.

But it was the milkshake I was most concerned about. Would the saltiness (and deliciousness) of bacon work hand in hand with the sweetness (and deliciousness) of a milkshake?

Gingerly I took a sip. Not bad. Not bad at all. Somehow the God of Milkshakes waved His magical wand and made this combination work.

The smokiness or saltiness of the bacon does not overpower the sweetness of the shake, and nor vice versa. It's heavenly.

It was a big drink, too, meaning two hours later I was still finishing it.

I’ll be back, Five Guys, very, very soon.
