OLYMPIAN Liz Yelling cheered the competitors home in Sunday's Festival of Running, in Poole Park.

The races attracted 1,200 entrants and the weather stayed dry despite overcast skies.

Liz, 34, who has moved to Parkstone from Loughborough, could not take part because her marathon training is underway - she had already done 19 miles that day!

"It's a shame because it's fantastic event with a fantastic location," she said.

First in the men's 10k was Zimbabwean Willard Chinhanhu, in 29min 59sec, representing Poole Runners.

The first lady home was Belgrave Harrier Bir Dagne, in a time of 33.25.

There was also a 5K run, lots of "minithons" for children, and a 5k run in aid of the Dorset Childrens' Hospice Julia's House.

The enthusiastic charity competitors included a blind man and a man with a heart transplant.

Liz said: "Today is about achieving personal goals."
