DRAMATIC dashcam footage shows the police pursuit of a recently jailed reckless driver who sped and crashed into several cars in Poole.

Ian Paul Collins, aged 42 and of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday, September 26, to 14 months in prison after admitting offences of dangerous driving and driving without valid insurance.

He was also banned from driving for three years – due to start when he is released from prison.

Dorset Police has since released the dashcam footage showing their high-speed pursuit of Collins, who was driving a red Peugeot 206 often at speeds of more than 60mph.

The pursuit began at around 2.15pm on Saturday, February 26, when officers on patrol in the Poole area were at the junction of Parkstone Heights and Ringwood Road when they saw Collins driving at a speed that was believed to be in excess of the 30mph limit.

The officers pulled out of the junction and indicated for the Peugeot to stop, however if failed to do so and continued toward the Newtown area travelling at speeds believed to be more than 60mph.

Collins had already crashed into a cyclist before the released footage begins. The cyclist sustained minor injuries, but his bike was severely damaged.

Released footage begins with officers pursuing Collins careering down the B3068 Ringwood Road before continuing toward the Alderney Roundabout, travelling at close to 70mph as officers followed.

As he approached the Mountbatten Roundabout, Collins crash into a Vauxhall Astra.

He then crashed into two more vehicles at the West Howe roundabout, before abandoning his vehicle. The footage ends with Collins fleeing from the scene.

He was later detained nearby.

It was subsequently discovered that Collins was wanted on a prison recall and was not insured to drive the Peugeot.
