NICOLA Allen’s letter to the Echo titled “gate removal is dangerous” which referred to the removal of the safety gate at Keyhole bridge at Whitecliff Park in Poole.

It was an extremely informative letter which covered many points not least of all the dangers some cyclists pose to walker’s children and dogs.

Exacerbated by the council’s obsession with providing facilities for cyclists at the expense of many others.

Elsewhere in the same edition of the Echo is an excellent article again outlining residents’ safety fears over the removal of the gate.

It also gives an explanation from a BCP council spokesperson that removal of the gate will improve accessibility for park users, mobility scooters or wheelchairs, despite all this it is easy to see the real reason for removing the gate, is as they say “to make it easier for people travelling by bike”.

I do wonder who it is amongst the BCP council officers who is so enthusiastic, nay fanatical regarding cyclists and cycleways? And why are they allowed to be so by the elected counsellors.

Is it not now also time that some form of identification on cycles is introduced and made law, perhaps this is something local MPs could pursue.
