A RESIDENT is calling for a full time attendant in the public toilets on Bournemouth Pier after visiting on a Saturday and finding ‘excrement on the walls and floor’.

Carol Gantner visited the public toilets on the pier during the first weekend of August and described them as ‘nothing short of disgusting.’

She said: “I had reason to visit the ladies public toilet at the Pier on Saturday August 6. It was nothing short of disgusting.

"Excrement on the walls and floor, blocked toilets, wet floors, toilet seats covered in urine, toilet paper strewn all over the floors, no soap in any dispenser, broken hand dryers and I could go on.

“As a taxpayer and resident, I expect more from the council. I understand that this is a busy tourist month, however, surely a full time attendant is the minimum service we should expect during this very busy time of the year.

“Pay a visit around 3pm on a busy Saturday if you dare - it's a health hazard.”

A BCP Council spokesperson said: “The seafront cleansing team do an amazing job cleaning the blocks along the seafront at least three times a day, all year round, as well as cleaning and disinfecting behind beach huts.

“They do this seven days a week between 7am and 10pm and we are stepping up the quality and frequency of cleaning during the busy summer season.

“Our Seafront Rangers are in contact with staff to ensure that they are fully prepared, trained and have the equipment they need.

“We haven’t received any reports regarding the toilets at Pier Approach. However the Seafront team can be contacted seven days a week during normal office hours on 01202 123800 or by email bournemouth.seafront@bcpcouncil.gov.uk where the team will then respond to any cleaning concerns.”
