A CARNIVAL, food festival and fire station open day are just of the events taking place in Dorset this weekend.

For those who don’t want to go to the beach, there are lots of events to choose from.

Here’s our guide to what’s happening where and when.

1. Westbourne Fire Station will be holding its first open day for more than 10 years on Sunday between 10am and 3pm. Visitors will be able to meet the firefighters, take a look around the fire station, watch demonstrations and meet officers from Dorset Police. All visitors are being invited to take a bag of clothing jumble for the Firefighter’s Charity collection, but no bric-a-brac, plastic, toys or electrical items.

2. Christchurch Carnival returns this weekend to Christchurch Quay. The event, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, will see a host of activities, entertainment and stalls on Saturday with a fireworks display at 9.30pm. Then on Sunday, visitors will be able to enjoy a dog show with a carnival parade leaving Two Riversmeet at 2pm before it arrives at The Quomps at 3.30pm.

3. Ellingham Show will be marking its 75th anniversary on Saturday. The popular agricultural show, held in the grounds of Somerley Park, takes place between 9am and 5.30pm and will feature a Spitfire flypast, food and drink stalls, steam engines, heavy horses, animal shows and more.

4. A taste of Thailand comes to Kings Park on Saturday and Sunday. Taking place between 10am and 7pm, Magic of Thailand Festival will celebrate Thai food, arts and crafts, boxing, dancing and more. Entry fees apply.

5. Bournemouth’s summer fireworks will light up the pier on Friday night at 10pm. The free display will take place every Friday until August 26.

6. There will be free dancing on the terraces outside Pavilion Dance on Friday and Saturday night. Between 7pm and 9pm, there will be wheelchair dance on the Friday with Bollywood classes on the Saturday.

7. Yoga fans can take part in free sessions at Poole’s Upton Country Park, Bournemouth’s Central Gardens and The Quomps in Christchurch between 9.30am and 10.30am on Sunday.

8. New Forest Fairy Festival comes to Burley Park on Saturday and Sunday. There will be shows, meditation, dancing, live music and more. Entry fees apply.
