A PUB is under new ownership - with the new landlady hoping to put it back in the community.

Jo Andrews has taken over the White Heather in Ferndown and has turned it into a live music and sports bar.

She said she wants it to become a “community hub” and said the challenge of overcoming its reputation was not one she was afraid of.

“We want to bring it back to what it should be, with live music and a sports bar,” she told the Daily Echo.

“The live music has gone mental. We put a post up a few days ago and had a ridiculous amount of people come forward.

“We’ll have an open mic night every Saturday and hopefully everyone will it here and have a good time.

“It is quite challenging getting everyone back, it is a big challenge, but it is not something I’m not used to, any pub is a big challenge.”

Jo said the regulars have already commented on the pub getting busier, despite only being open a week.

“We want it to be back to the community,” she continued. “We want the community back in and we want to be a part of it.

“Everyone has been brilliant so far, they are all really lovely and I have met a really nice bunch.”

Once the kitchen is fully open, the pub will offer pub classics to its punters, including a Yorkshire pudding roast.

“We are competing with Wetherspoons who are ridiculously cheap, but we always have deals on,” Jo added.

“You pay that little more to have the atmosphere and the live music and sports.

On the drinks side of things, the White Heather has Heineken, Strongbow, Fosters, Birra Moretti, Guinness, among others, all on tap.

They also have deals on bottles and spirits, including two Jager bombs for £5, or three Sambuka shots for £5.

Jo added the pub were looking for pool teams, football teams and poker players to get involved with the pub and said there is “something for everyone”.
