EMERGENCY services were called to a concern for welfare incident that saw large parts of the area near Poole Quay cordoned off on Saturday.
Dorset Police responded to reports of a man on the roof of a muti-storey car park at Poole Quay in the early hours.
It was reported that the man had been the victim of an assault and had sustained a head injury, said Dorset Police.
Emergency services spent hours attempting to engage with the man and bring him to safety.
A road closure was implemented, and police manned a cordon near Soho bar and kitchen, and a second between Sainsburys Local and Slug and Lettuce, with many shops forced to close for the morning.
One lady who lives in a nearby flat said she saw the man pacing the roof shortly after 8am.
An earlier statement by Police said: “Police received a report at 3.56am raising concern for the welfare of a man on a roof of a muti-storey car park at Poole Quay.
"It was reported that the man had been the victim of an assault and had sustained a head injury.
"Officers have attended the scene and have attempted to engage with the man and take him to safety.
"Road closures have been put in place as emergency services respond to the incident.”
The man was taken to safety shortly before 10am.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "The man has now been taken to safety and is being treated by the ambulance service."
Police thanked members of the public for their patience and understanding.
