A STUMP grinder and trailer which was stolen in Dorset has been found by officers from Ringwood Police.

Whilst out on patrol, policemen came across the machinery hidden in undergrowth by offenders which, Ringwood Police say, is “ready to be collected at a time convenient for them when there is less scrutiny.”

The machinery was recovered for forensic examination and returned to its owner.

A spokesperson for Ringwood Police said: “If you know someone who is stealing from rural businesses or communities then call us on 101 so we can target those who bring misery to rural towns and villages.

“If you can't speak to Hampshire Constabulary then contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 to Rat on A Rat to help tackle organised crime so we can catch and convict offenders.”

It comes as earlier in the month nearly £500,000 worth of farming machinery was found by police from Dorset Police and Hampshire Constabulary.

The Rural Crime Team executed warrants at two rural locations in East Dorset where they made the discovery.

Three men, including a 21-year-old, a 47-year-old and an 82-year-old were arrested on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods.

Searches revealed a large quantity of plant and agricultural machinery as well as several vehicles stolen from Dorset and Essex.
