LICENCES for two new Bournemouth venues are to be considered by councillors on July 19.

Applications for a premises licence have been made by SoBo Beach on the Solent Promenade at Southbourne and for ‘Bread and Butcher’ in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth.

The SoBo application is for the site where the Bistro on the Beach, which has been demolished, was previously located.

It asks for a music and drinks licence until 10pm each day, with music able to start from noon and drink sales, both on and off the premises, from 10am.

Three objections have been lodged with the council claiming that to grant it would “undermine the prevention of crime and disorder and prevention of public nuisance licensing objectives.”

The current ‘pop up’ premises is described as being only temporary, awaiting a more permanent building.

Councillors will be told that an application has also been made for the transfer of the premises licence previously held by Bistro on the Beach with slightly shorter hours and a limit of six drinks at any one time per customer for off sales.

Dorset Police has asked for a limit of 9.30pm for drinks sales and also wants to not allow the sale of short/shooters and stronger beers or ciders above 5.5per cent.

The Bread and Butcher application for 491 Christchurch Road has also received objections.

The business trades as a butcher shop but also wants to be able to sell alcohol within the building and through online orders for delivery.

Councillors will be told that there has been seven objections to the premises licence application including those which claim further alcohol sales in the The Crescent area will increase the possibility of crime and disorder.

One letter writer said she was surprised to see an application for a butcher’s shop to sell booze: “The meat and bread they sell are necessities, them selling alcohol will only push residents of Boscombe to consume it more.”
