A POPULAR pub in Broadstone is to close its doors for an extensive period due to the ongoing construction of an apartment block.

The Goods Yard in Station Approach will shut on Sunday, September 4, after 14 “excellent” years serving the community as a pub and restaurant.

As reported, landowners Primetower Properties previously secured planning approval from BCP Council for its application to transform the pub car park into a block of 33 apartments in late 2020.

The four-floor apartment block will feature nine one-bed, and 24 two-bed flats. It will maintain 27 parking spaces on the site, with 33 cycle spaces.

In addition to the apartment block, the Goods Yard building itself will have a rear extension to create five additional flats for rent.

Due to the “practicalities and complexities” of the construction, the pub owners said they had “no option” but to cease trading for the duration of the works.

A social media post from The Goods Yard said: “The plan is that once the building operations are fully completed, The Goods Yard will reopen for service, and we look forward to that day when we can welcome back customers old and new.

“We have been open since March 2008 and have always enjoyed being a major part of the daily life in Broadstone. We would like to thank our loyal customers for their continuous support and good humour over the past 14 years, as well as offer a very big thank you to all our loyal staff and management (past and present) who have worked so hard throughout to make The Goods Yard an excellent establishment.

“We thank you all, we appreciate you all, and wish you well.”

They also urged customers to “pop in for a drink” before the September closure date, however said the kitchen has closed immediately due to staff illness.

In September 2020, Echo readers voted The Goods Yard as it’s Pub of the Week food where it received praise for its atmosphere, food and selection of real ale, lager and wine.

It is not yet known how long construction work will take.
