Providing details about the incident more than 40 hours after being contacted by the Daily Echo, a Dorset Police spokeswoman said: “We were called at 12.49pm on Saturday, July 2, to reports that a member of the public had taken an item that was believed to be a mine to the recycling centre on the Nuffield Industrial Estate in Poole.
“The area was evacuated by staff and a cordon was put in place for the safety of members of the public.
“An EOD team attended, assessed and retrieved the item.
“The cordon was lifted and officers left the scene at around 3.45pm. The item was found to be empty.”
