A MAN is fighting for life after being left with "very serious head injuries" from an attack in Boscombe on Thursday night.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene in Christchurch Road in Boscombe at 9.52pm on Thursday.

Police say the victim, a 67-year-old local man, was seriously assaulted, falling to the ground and knocked unconscious by another man.

The 67-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance where he remains with life-threatening injuries. His next of kin has been made aware.

It is also reported that the male suspect assaulted another man, who sustained cuts and bruising.

A woman, who tried to intervene and help was also pushed to the ground by the suspect.

He then stole an electric scooter from another man before making off from the scene towards the Pokesdown area. 

The offender is described as white, of large build and with short dark hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit.  

A police presence remained in place overnight, with two police officers still stationed on the cordon throughout Friday morning.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are making a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident, which has left a man with very serious head injuries.

“I am appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the police to please come forward as they may be able to help with our investigation.  

“Also, I am particularly keen to speak to the woman who tried to intervene to establish whether she sustained any injuries and the man who had the electric scooter taken from him. They may have vital information that could also assist us.  

“Anyone with information about who the offender may be is asked to contact us urgently as well as anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage.”

One witness to the scene said he saw a fight outside a pub and a man lay on the floor unconscious. 

Boscombe West councillor Lewis Allison added: "I'm heartbroken to once again hear of violent crime taking place in Boscombe.

"I want to thank the members of the community who put themselves at risk to assist the man who was being assaulted.

"I would reiterate the calls from the police for any witnesses to come forward and encourage Boscombe residents to do what they can to assist them in tackling anti-social behaviour by reporting all incidents directly to the police."

Conservative councillor for Boscombe West, Cllr Jane Kelly, said: “These kind of incidents happen everywhere and all the time. It isn’t exclusive to Boscombe.  

“I’m very sad for the man assaulted and his family and hope he recovers quickly.”
