NEW Body Fitness edged an intra-club clash with Gungho Marketing 35-34 in a compelling South & West Dorset League Premier Division fixture.

This match was fast paced and end-to-end from the start.

Gungho's defensive pairing of GK Mailia Brown and GD Lauren McRobbie made a number of key interceptions through the first half, but New Body kept in touch with C Kate Nichols linking play through court to secure shooting opportunities for her team resulting in a 19-15 lead for Gungho at half-time.

The second half saw New Body chip away at Gungho’s lead with some key interceptions resulting in goals, and them consequently scoring off their own centre passes.

As the final whistle approached play was goal for goal but New Body found that extra gear in the final minutes to secure a one-goal victory.

WAIKIKI 36

McCARTHY STONE 35

THERE was another one-goal victory in Division One as Waikiki edged McCarthy Stone 36-35.

This clash did not disappoint with play initially evenly matched. McCarthy’s C Kate Patten made some great interceptions throughout the quarter, but a number of centre pass errors by McCarthy allowed Waikiki a three-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.

Through the second quarter Waikiki continued to build on their lead with tight defensive work from GD Leah Stockley and led 18-10 at half-time.

McCarthy brought Sam Shewbridge on at GS for the second half and this enabled them to start to close the gap to just three goals at three-quarter time.

Into the final quarter, Waikiki’s GS Hayley Rooks continued to shoot accurately and C Emily Peacock provided strong play through the mid-court, but McCarthy Stone worked hard throughout court to pull play level with just a minute left.

A final goal under pressure from Rooks for Waikiki gave them victory by the narrowest margin.

FIRST FIT WINDOWS 41

LULWORTH LIGHTNING 35

FIRST Fit Windows enjoyed a more comfortable triumph over Lulworth Lightning but were still kept honest in the 41-35 win.

Both teams started the match off with steady paced play through court. Lulworth GA Madison Carter showed good accuracy with her shooting.

At the other end, First Fit GS Ellen Stanton used her skill to find space and was also accurate in her shooting.

Defensively, First Fit GD Charlotte Newman gained a number of interceptions while Lulworth’s defensive unit brought the ball through court well, assisting their team to a 20-17 lead at half-time.

Changes to the Lulworth saw Libby Davis on at GS and WA Chelsi Pike made some good passes into her.

First Fit were gathering some quality interceptions and upping the pace of play and with Charlotte Newman continuing to perform well at GD and GA Kathy Sims scoring some great goals they drew level and then pulled ahead to secure the win by a six-goal margin.

SANDSFOOT SIRENS 38

JOE NEWTON 35

SANDSFOOT Sirens upset the odds in Division Two with a 38-35 victory over Joe Newton Electrical.

Joe Newton started this match strongly with C Jess Mortimer working well around the circle edge to secure passes into the shooters.

Sandsfoot GS Lily Childs and GA Lexie Davis produced some quality play to keep their side in touch, but with well-timed interceptions from Newton’s GD Senna Briant and accurate shooting from their GA Caragh Watt they had the lead 20-14 at half-time.

Tactical changes at half-time saw Sandsfoot start to make a comeback with C Freya Cartwright working well through the court and secure quality passes into the shooters.

Newton’s shooters continued to hit the target but it was Sandsfoot that finished the match the strongest, closing the gap and then taking the lead to secure a great comeback win.
