One person was taken to hospital after a crash between an oil tanker lorry and a car on the A338 on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place just before 10am on the southbound carriageway of the road, just after Blackwater junction.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 9.56am of a collision on the southbound carriageway of the A338 near to the Blackwater Junction involving a car and a tanker.

"Officers have attended, along with the fire and ambulance services."

They said there were no reports of any serious injuries and the vehicles were recovered from the scene with the council called over some debris left in the road.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to the A338 Blackwater junction to Cooper Dean roundabout at 10.04am after a collision was reported between an oil tanker and a car.

"We sent crews from Christchurch, Redhill Park and Springbourne; however, the car driver got themselves out of their vehicle, so our stop was at 10.20am."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 9.57am to a road traffic collision on the A338 in the Bournemouth area. Resources we sent included a double-crewed land ambulance, a doctor and an operations officer. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Poole Hospital.”
