A NEW parcel distribution warehouse, touted to become “one of the largest” buildings in Poole, is beginning to take shape.

Images show the progress being made on the single warehouse which is under construction in Sterte Avenue West to meet the demands of an unnamed parcel delivery firm.

It is believed locally that global tech giant Amazon will take tenancy at the site built by developer St. Modwen.

At present, Amazon has remained tight lipped over the development with a spokesperson twice telling the Echo they are unable to comment on “rumour and speculation”.

However, a Bristol-based concrete pump hire company shared a picture reportedly of the Poole site on social media stating it was the “eighth Amazon project we are proud to supply and service”.

The land, positioned between the A350 and railway line, was previously allocated in the Poole Local Plan for employment purposes and will also house a multi-storey “van storage deck” alongside the warehouse – with space to park 633 vehicles used by the would-be occupier for distributing parcels around the area.

Some external cladding and windows have been erected on the south side of the building with crews on site estimating that completion will be in late September this year.

A BCP Council case officer report said: “The building would be one of the largest in Poole and its scale and height would be apparent. However, it would be viewed within the context of the employment area and industrial buildings nearby.”

Approval for the plans came at some cost to the applicants with BCP Council granting permission subject to a financial contribution of £349,000 to be spent on one or more sites within the Poole Harbour catchment area to compensate for the loss of habitat on the land, among other conditions.
