A BOY was smashed in the face with a bottle during an assault in Southbourne.

Two boys were taken to hospital for treatment following an altercation with a group of young people on Fisherman’s Walk beach.

At approximately 11.50pm on Thursday June 23, the pair were assaulted, and a bottle was smashed in the face of one of the victims. They were both taken to hospital for treatment.

It is reported someone in the group was in possession of a knife.

The group also reportedly assaulted a male cyclist who was in the area around the time of the incident.

A 17-year-old boy from Eastleigh in Hampshire was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.

He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Laura Smith, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Our investigation is continuing, and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident.

“I would also like to appeal directly to the male cyclist who was reportedly assaulted to please come forward so we can ensure you are OK and take your account of what happened.”
