MAGISTRATES have fined a woman £200 for dropping a cigarette butt.

Leona Murphy, of International Way, Southampton, appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court.

Murphy dropped the cigarette in Above Bar Street and left it there, according to the charge.

She was found guilty by a single magistrate sitting behind closed doors of throwing down, dropping or otherwise depositing litter.

It happened on January 21 this year.

Magistrates ordered her to pay a £200 fine, a £34 surcharge and £168.75 costs.

She must pay the balance of £422.75 by July 12.
