These fascinating old photos were sent in by reader John Marsh, of the Mitchell Transporter that used to unload from the coal ships at Poole Quay in the 1930s and 40s.
The grab held three tonnes of coal, some of which used to fall off as it was carried across the Quay, and youngsters were usually there with bags to pick it up and take home.
