A MAN will have to pay 42 times more than he would have needed to after travelling on a train without paying his fare.
Owen McKenzie, 23, was proved to have travelled at Bristol Temple Meads without paying the rail fare of £10.45 on December 3, 2021.
McKenzie, of Gorleston Road, Poole, was not present at Bristol Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on Monday, June 13.
Magistrates fined him £220 for the offence and ordered him to pay compensation of £10.45.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £180.
It means the 23-year-old will have to pay a total of £444.45 for a rail fare which initially would have cost £10.45.
