It said many places will stay dry but thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and lightning to some places in the south.

The Met said there was a small chance homes and businesses could be flooded, and bus and train services could be cancelled where lightning strikes.

It also warned spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost,” it said.

The weather warning will be in place until 10am on Saturday.
