SWIMMERS and beachgoers are being reminded what yellow buoys along BCP beach fronts mean ahead of a busy weekend.
Dorset Marine Policing Team has outlined several reminders for visitors to the coast, namely that yellow buoys denote designated swimming areas.
There are rules around use of personal watercraft (PWC's) within these areas, for example jet skis and powerboats. Whilst PWC's can enter these areas, there is a speed restriction of six knots – described as a fast jog.
The Marine Policing team added: “If you observe a PWC behaving dangerously between the yellow buoys and the shore, alert an RNLI lifeguard.
“If there is no one nearby to assist, if you have smartphone footage, you can submit it to us at MarinePolicingTeam@dorset.PNN.police.uk and the Marine Engagement Team or Marine FSG will pick it up for intelligence development and the potential for future action.
“Always call 999 in an emergency – when a life is in danger.”
