A MAN in Lyndhurst was left surprised after coming across a large parrot along the Sea Wall.
Harry McGuire was out for a cycle when he spotted the red and blue scarlet macaw.
The 22-year-old pub manager said: “I was coming from Keyhaven Yacht Club towards Lymington and stopped when I saw the parrot.
“I thought, ‘Oh, that looks like a parrot!'”
He added: "I went to pick it up, and was going to pop a shirt over it to cover its face so it could calm down.
“It wasn’t having it – the parrot screamed at me and flew off.
“At least it wasn’t injured.”
The parrot, called a scarlet macaw, is commonly found in the Amazon rainforest in South America. With wide strong wings and hollow bones that aid flight, they can reach speeds of up to 35mph.
The hunt is now on to find the owner of the parrot and bring it back home safely.

The parrot is spotted days after an appeal went out to find an Alexandrine parrot called Percy.
Percy, who is green, went missing in Boscombe earlier this week and owner, Emma Cuthbert, is looking for him.
