A BIKE map has shown where Bournemouth's most hazardous roads are for cyclists.

A total of 95 hazards were reported in Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth alone, over the last ten years, on online bike map bikemaps.org.

The majority of hazards on this road were the risk of car doors being opened by people parked on double yellow lines or the pavement.

But one cyclist reported a near head-on collision with a vehicle, on the map.

They said: "I was cycling westbound on old Christchurch Road. As I approached Walkabout and the Turtle Bay area a delivery driver pulled into my path head on and forced me to stop, to allow them to park in the loading bay."

Another user reported a second near collision with a vehicle on the approach to the Lansdowne Roundabout.

They said: "I was on the roundabout emerging from Christchurch Road and heading into Old Christchurch Road when a young female driver emerged from Bath Road directly in front of me causing me to slam my brakes on to avoid a collision. The driver did not stop."

Other roads reported similarly high numbers of hazards, including Christchurch Road in Boscombe which had 46 and Seabourne Road leading into Southbourne Grove which had 47.

Large bicycle symbols were recently painted in the middle of lanes on Christchurch Road through Boscombe following a resurfacing project which finished in March.

The council said the markings were to encourage cyclists to take a "prominent" position in the road, making them more visible to cars.

Despite this, vehicles have still been regularly reported since then, for parking in the cycle lanes on both sides of the road.

A large number of near collisions were also reported on Seabourne Road leading into Southbourne Grove.

A total of nine near misses were reported, with the main reason being vehicles turning out of side roads.

One user said: "A driver emerged from Wentworth Avenue directly into my path and missed me by a half a metre."

Another said: "A driver turned across my path into the B3059 and missed me by inches."

A total of 233 hazards were reported in the Bournemouth area with Old Christchurch Road, Christchurch Road in Boscombe and Southbourne Grove posing the greatest risk to cyclists, according to the data.
