AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a car crashed off the Christchurch Bypass before coming to a stop in a ditch.

Part of A35 dual carriageway was closed into the early hours of Monday morning following the incident shortly before 7pm on Sunday, May 15.

Dorset Police received a report at 6.43pm of a single-vehicle collision involving a white Audi R8.

It was reported that the vehicle, which was travelling westbound, had left the road and was in a ditch, between Somerford Roundabout and Stony Lane Roundabout.

The driver of the car – a man aged in his 50s – was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to safely deal with the incident and treat the injured person. It reopened at around 2.25am on Monday, May 16.

Police Constable Gavin Newbury, of the traffic unit, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or manner of driving of the vehicle in the moments beforehand to please get in touch.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who may have been driving in the area and captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.”
