A POPULAR raft race is set to return to Mudeford Quay this year following a three-year break.
Mudeford Lifeboat Funday will be returning on August 7 with its crowd-drawing event that sees thousands flock to the Quay.
The event, held to raise money for RNLI, sees members of the public race their home-made rafts against each other in the water.
The race has not been held in the village since 2018, with the 2019 event called off due to dangerous weather conditions followed by two years of cancellation due to Covid.
Even for those not racing, the day is a great opportunity to see the rafts compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize shields. There is also a prize for the ‘Best Dressed Raft’, so the day is sure to feature an array of inventive costumes.
Participants are encouraged to fundraise for RNLI ahead of the event, with a prize going to the raft with the most money raised. The funds will go to support the lifesaving institution which continues to play a vital rescue service.
Those wanting to take part are asked to complete forms via the official website. There is a maximum of 20 rafts allowed to compete on the day, so it is advisable to get your entries in as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
