DRUG driving, speeding close to 100mph and disqualified drivers were just a few of the road offences reported by traffic officers throughout this week.

Dorset Traffic Cops said in between starting investigations into several serious collisions across the county, they have been able to “pick up on preventing collisions by dealing with some motoring offending”.

First reported was a silver BMW stopped in the Bournemouth area after information suggested the driver was under the influence of cannabis while operating the car.

A subsequent drug wipe proved suspicions right and the driver was arrested. Their BMW was also seized after the driver was found to be without a licence. They are now assisting officers with their enquiries.

Elsewhere, a Kia was stopped outside Grimstone after police received a report saying it was uninsured. The Motor Insurers' Bureau confirmed this was the case which resulted in the vehicle being seized and the driver reported.

Three vehicles were stopped in separate parts of Poole for driving well over the speed limit.

Two vehicles were clocked travelling at 75mph and 76mph on the 50mph limited Dorset Way, while another was found to be speeding at 94mph on the Upton Bypass.

All drivers were reported for these offences.

Finally, officers patched in with their Dorset Police No Excuse colleagues on the stop of a Blue BMW which they seized for being driven by a disqualified person.

Upon inspection, it was found that the vehicle’s front brakes were devoid of any braking material.

The vehicle is now under a prohibition and cannot be used until repaired and examined for a new MOT.

A police spokesperson said: “Above all we hope you agree the roads are made safer by these outcomes.”
