RAILWAYS of all shapes and sizes are coming to a popular model town for the return of the annual railway weekend.

Taking place between April 30 and May 2, Wimborne Model Town will play host to the railway weekend, with visitors giving the chance to ride the garden railway.

Making its public debut is the compact T gauge layout, Keren Cove, having featured in Railway Modeller magazine.

Built and exhibited by Model Town volunteer Becky Stares, the 3mm scale diorama with a distinctly Purbeck feel has town and seascapes, rolling countryside and a tiny 1/450 scale train which progresses through cuttings, across miniature bridges and a level crossing to reach its destination.

Model Town railway volunteers will be operating the developing tramway system and organising extensive running on the attraction’s expanding 00 gauge layout including trains running underground and hot air balloon flights above the diorama.

Manager Nick Clark said: “We are very pleased to have the railway weekend back on the Model Town timetable. It’s a great showcase for our volunteers’ hard work and enthusiasm.”
