THE ETCHES Collection, Museum of Jurassic Marine Life, located on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in Dorset has just launched a Children’s Fossil Competition.

For the next four months children between the ages of 5-16, who live in the UK, will have the opportunity to enter one of their fossils into the competition and get the chance to have it on display at the museum.

Every child that enters the competition will receive a personal annual pass to the museum that is valid for the year and will also get an e-certificate.

The six winners will have their fossil on display alongside the museum’s collection for a year.

Dr. Steve Etches, MBE, museum founder and head of collections said: “The children’s fossil competition is an incredible opportunity for the museum to showcase the talents and enthusiasm that younger generations have for fossil collecting.

“Our hope is that it will capture the imaginations of children and their families.

"Many of my colleagues who are successful palaeontologists have commented that they wish they would have had this kind of opportunity when they were kids.

"Just remember when collecting fossils that you must adhere to the Fossil Collecting Code.”
