WINTRY showers are predicted across parts of Dorset on Thursday according to weather experts.

Bournemouth-based weather expert Dorset Sun has said there is a risk of some wintry weather being seen across a number of areas running into the late afternoon on Thursday.

Dorset Sun said we can expect a mixture of “rain, sleet and snow” with the heaviest and most persistent areas of precipitation occurring in the east of the county.

However in their ‘Thursday update’, posted online today, Dorset Sun alluded to weather models being split on their forecast with some moving away from snow predictions.

They said: “Half of the models clear the weather system away late on Wednesday night and it’s pretty much all rain.”

However, Dorset Sun said other models are showing precipitation will last until Thursday morning with “widespread sleet and snow”.

“I would say that models are generally backing away from the risk of widespread sleet and snow, but still a small chance.

“Risk of wintry showers on Thursday afternoon looks pretty high though,” said Dorset Sun.

The Met Office forecasts temperatures to reach lows of 1C in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole on Thursday, rising to 7C in the afternoon.
