PLANS have been tabled to install a Portakabin building to provide more canteen space at a Poole school.

Ambitions Academies Trust is seeking permission from BCP Council’s planning department for the development at St Aldhelm’s Academy in Herbert Avenue.

If approved, the proposal would see a permanent single storey Portakabin Limited building after an increase in pupil numbers in the 2021 academic year had led to insufficient canteen space.

The school will have a pupil count of 900 from September, up from 820 in the current year.

A design and access statement submitted by Portakabin on behalf of the school said: “There is no available space within the existing buildings in which to accommodate this need, hence the vital ned to install additional floor area elsewhere within the site boundaries.”

The Portakabin would be 3.2 metres high, 26.4 metres long and 9.9 metres wide.

The statement said the building can be installed quickly, enabling St Aldhelm’s Academy to begin using the specifically fitted out building much more quickly than a traditional build.

BCP Council planners are currently assessing the application.
