BOURNEMOUTH was the first place in the country to welcome the quirky attraction back in 2018.

And now, the Upside Down House could make a comeback in the town.

A planning application has been lodged with BCP Council asking permission for the unusual structure to be sited at the Pavilion terrace for a temporary period of 12 months.

The exact location is listed as the terrace to Bournemouth Pavilion.

And it would be open from 10am until 8pm Monday to Friday and until 9pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

When the installation launched in Bournemouth in 2018, it was the first time the house had been seen in Britain.

The two-storey upside down house sat on its roof in the Triangle.

And the eye-catching pink and black structure proved popular with visitors and residents alike.

It was due to return last year, with plans lodged for a site at Pier Approach, but the scheme was withdrawn.

The Upside Down House company say on its website: "Since the success of the first house in Bournemouth we have placed further units nationwide.

"The idea is to mix the old with the new, to allow families to have a fun, unique day out with the use of social media."

The property which visited Bournemouth previously had real-life furniture and fittings, secured to the ceilings, with two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, a bathroom and office.

The idea of house is that visitors take normal photos of each other inside and later flip the pictures 180 degrees to make it look like they too are upside down. It will remain in situ until next June.

Other Upside Houses can be seen in Brighton, Lakeside in Essex, Cribbs Causeway in Bristol, Westfield shopping centre in London, Great Yarmouth and Milton Keynes.

BCP Council said: "We can confirm that a planning application has been made on 13th of January for “use of land for the temporary sitting of an 'Upside Down House' entertainment installation for a 12 month period”. The target decision date is 9th of March.

"The Planning Department processes the application based on the merits of the scheme and how it relates to the policies in our Local Plan. Clearly planning seeks to support development that contributes to the vitality and offer in the town centre, providing there are no adverse impacts that outweigh the benefits.

"We have approved the upside down house previously for shorts period over the Christmas season. The acceptability of approving its longer term retention will be assessed as part of any current/ pending application."
