AN illuminated woodland trail which is making its debut at a Purbeck attraction is proving so popular it could become an annual event.

The Blue Pool in Wareham has teamed up with OT Event Technicians to create Illuminate, a 1km trail featuring professionally staged illuminations which also gives visitors glimpses of the pool at night along the way.

Illuminate launched on January 13 and runs until February 27 and frequently sells out.

Managing director of Blue Pool, Matthew Elliott Jones, said that the public’s reaction to the event had been “wonderful”.

He said: “We frequently sell out and we have had some marvellous frosty evenings which create a very magical atmosphere.

“General feedback is that visitors enjoy the relaxed, natural feel to the place, we allow plenty of space and timings to ensure that people can wander round and fully absorb the feel of this beautiful place by night.”

Tickets are still available for the event but are “selling fast”.

Mr Jones said: “It is the first time in The Blue Pool's near 100-year history that it has opened for evening illuminations.”

He added: “If the event continues to prove successful then we will make this an annual event, bringing a little light into these gloomy winter months.”

General manager Carolyn Snook said Blue Pool had wanted to stage an evening event for a long time and that the right opportunity had come along at the right time.

Ms Snook said Blue Pool had anticipated the new spectacle would be popular, particularly as it gave people something to look forward to after Christmas.

Illuminations runs from 4.30pm to 8pm every Thursday to Sunday and the event is free for annual members of The Blue Pool.

Tickets are on sale now and cost between £5 and £10 with parking free onsite for all tickets holders.

Visitors are urged to car share where possible.

Access around the trails are suitable for wheelchairs, however, people should be aware that the trail includes uneven ground. Dogs are welcome on leads.
