A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences after a car crashed through the side of the house in Wimborne.

The incident took place on Saturday morning at a home in King Street just off the Pye Corner Roundabout near the Minster Arms pub.

It is understood a vehicle travelling across the roundabout lost control and ended up smashing into the side of the detached property, with one resident saying she heard an “almighty crash”.

Police attended and the car was moved, leaving a gaping hole in the wall with bricks strewn inside into the property’s lounge.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We received a report at 2.22am on Saturday of a collision involving a car that had collided with a property in King Street in Wimborne.

“Officers attended, along with the fire service as well as a structural engineer and the local authority, to ensure the vehicle was safely removed from the scene and the property could be made safe.

“An 18-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of driving offences and criminal damage. He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be serious and was subsequently released under investigation pending further enquiries.”

Dorset Council called upon family run building business PKN Preservation Ltd to attend the scene and provide some early reparation work.

Director, Peter Nelson said: “They removed the car this morning after the police had been and we got called out to temporarily support the building and cover it over for them until engineers can come out and insurance is all dealt with.

“We’re here to make it structurally safe and to board it over.”

One resident, who lives nearby, says she heard the crash before attending the scene later. She said: “I heard an almighty crash and assumed it would have been between two cars, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw the car with its front inside the lovely home.

“It’s terribly sad because I know that’s a family home. I just hope nobody was hurt.”
